This is only the beginning.
We may not have won the election, but we’ve won the public debate. Every major local media outlet is now talking about the need for Portland City Council districts so that we can have a truly representative City Hall, which was not happening before we launched this campaign.
We’re going to keep fighting for a City Hall that actually represents ALL Portlanders, including those of us who live in East Portland. We’re going to keep fighting for policies that put people first – like thinking outside the for-profit developer box to create permanently affordable housing.
We took on a ten-year incumbent and got over 32% of the vote – more than 36,000 votes – the third highest of anyone running for any City Council position. We hit over 16,000 doors and distributed 400 lawn signs, all without taking any money from corporations or developers.
I’m so appreciative of the grassroots support we’ve received throughout this campaign. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, or voted. I’m excited to continue working with all of you to create a better future for Portland!
